The Association of British Investigators is sector accredited by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency and is endorsed by the Law Society of England and Wales who recognise the A.B.I as the premier professional body for private investigators working in the UK and beyond: "A non-profit organisation, its national and international membership provides credibility and due diligence". The A.B.I is also an approved supplier to the Law Society of Scotland, who acknowledge: "Its national and international membership provides the only credible list of accredited operatives".

The Security Industry Authority explained that Business Licencing for the UK's Private Investigators was their preferred route back in 2013 (The "Second Tier of Licencing") and will, subject to review, require Private Investigators to obtain ACS (Approved Contractor Scheme), status.

The second tier of licencing or Business Licences for Private Investigators will be based on existing (Draft) British Standards and Association of British Investigator and other trade bodies mandatory qualification requirements to demonstrate professionalism, competence, probity and ethics.

Student Debrief 2015

We ensured that if licensing had been enabled this year then the capacity for those needing to sit invigilated exams was in place.

The year began with many of the corporate investigation firms advising their employees and sub-contractors that a qualification in professional investigations is a good idea with or without SIA licences or British Standard 102000 and many organisations selected the Association of British investigators IQ Level Three Award in professional Investigations.

We were the first Association of British Investigators Academy trainers to get a candidate through the exam - Vince Butler (A.B.I Full Member), director of VTK Investigations Ltd, Bradford, West Yorkshire, gained the accolade as the first person to achieve the A.B.I accredited IQ Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators.

The Pearson BTEC Professional Investigator Award is another qualification - it has proven to be as popular as the IQ qualification and is chosen by entrants who might not be as established in the industry as Mr Imossi or Mr Butler.

We transferred many training courses to our e-learning platform and began to offer process serving and certified enforcement agent training as well as the professional investigator awards this year. We ran exam sessions as far north as Edinburgh and as far south as Farnborough.

Hopefully, the 5 day classroom training course can begin enroling the next generation in 2016. We look back with a lot of satisfaction this year.
